Parent koi are too valuble to risk damage from a mass spawning, so eggs are extracted from the female.
Milt is extracted from the males
The eggs and milt are mixed in a bowl...
..then added to spawning ropes to hatch.
Selection starts even when the fry are tiny
The fry are put into mud ponds and fed regularly
Again they are culled before growing on for the summer
The autumn harvest shows the breeder the fruits of his labour!
